We had an amazing holiday season, and everyone got well so I was able to host Christmas dinner this year....of course a couple of days later everyone who came had the flu, but it's better than giving the marines mono again. :) New Years was fabulous playing head bands with the kids and hanging out. They were stoked that I told them to stay up until midnight.
We are still dealing with the whole dental thing, and it's driving me crazy. Our son's oral surgery was originally scheduled for the 29th of January, but after hearing of his CU, the hospital didn't feel comfortable doing it, and refused the surgery. So off to Children's hospital we went, for yet another consultation. Of course our son has a huge fear of dentists now from the last visit he had, but this dentist put him at ease, and was completely awesome! Our son now tells me he wants to be a dentist. The surgery is now scheduled for mid March, and we will be staying at minimum one night, or more. They are being very cautious with his CU, and I love them all for it. Starting next week, every Friday is booked with a Dr. appointment in preparation for this event. From allergists to pcp's to anesthesiologists, we will see them all, and then get this over! Of course, as luck would have it our son's tooth started hurting pretty bad the other day. He has been on a regiment of ibuprofen and orajel again, with the dentist and I talking a lot.
things some say like curing a list of diseases, but everyone agrees it is great for oral health. I am using coconut oil for the anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, for our son, and I swear I see what little inflammation he had going down, and the gums don't look so angry. Of course I am doing it with him, and so is our daughter, and today I
feel like I have more energy even though staying up till after midnight last night! I am going to keep trying it with him, although the dentist called today and when I told him what I was doing got a tone in his voice like I had lost it. I guess he doesn't believe in ancient Chinese medicine, because he called in an antibiotic instead and said I could "probably stop doing it" with a true skeptic sound. Of course I would never do oil pulling over antibiotics with an infection, but from everything I have told the
dentist, he said it doesn't sound like our son has an infection yet, just pain from the cavity, but living 2.5 hours away I can't just pop in and let him look. I will definitely put him on the antibiotic, since we are trying to prevent an infection until surgery time, but will keep doing the oil pulling as well. If you decide to try oil pulling, do not spit it in your sink when done. It can clog it, especially if you are using coconut oil because it will turn to a solid after a certain temp.
Of course we have had our battles with CU. With all this cold weather we haven't really had the chance to leave the house, and even though I am a huge home body, I am so tired of being home! On January 8th our son went into anaphylaxis at school, so this makes his number 8 anaphylactic reaction. Upon the follow up with the allergist he told me he
was contemplating jumping the temp that our son can't go out to 50 F including wind chill. This was not something I was expecting, but the allergist told me "I know social life is important to you, but if we don't get this under control, your son will not survive the condition." When he said that I can honestly tell you to say I was petrified didn't even
cover it, and I still hear those words everyday. We settled on a temperature of 32F with wind chill for our son, and are working it the best we can, knowing at any point it could jump to 50. Our daughter seems to be doing better with her CU than our son, but she has been reacting to getting out of showers. The other morning she took a shower and broke out from head to toe. While driving her to school she became nauseous, so back to the house we went, for another missed day of school.
I can definitely say I am ready for the weather to warm up and the surgery to be done and over with. In the mean time I will get a lot better about getting new posts up this year, and digging into new information! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go unclog my sink from the coconut oil.... :)
